Connecting your WhatsApp: what Facebook will ask for

To connect your number the official way, Meta opens a Facebook window. This guide explains why, what you'll see, and what to do if you get stuck.

1. Why is it asking for Facebook?

WhatsApp Business belongs to Meta, the same company as Facebook. To connect your number the official way, Meta requires you to identify yourself with a Facebook account. This is not an ExpressAi requirement and we cannot skip it.

The window that opens is Facebook's, not ours: you type your password into Meta's servers. ExpressAi never sees it and never stores it.

2. Do I need a business portfolio?

You don't need to create one beforehand. A business portfolio is simply the folder where Meta keeps your business accounts — your WhatsApp Business account will live inside it.

If you don't have one yet, the window will offer to create it right there. All it asks for is your business name. It is not a Facebook Page, nothing is published, and nobody else will see it.

3. The screens you'll see

Meta will take you through five screens. None of them asks for payment details.

1. Sign inEmail or phone · Password
2. PermissionsWhat ExpressAi may do · Accept terms
3. PortfolioPick an existing one · or create a new one
4. WhatsApp accountBusiness name · Category
5. Verify numberYour number · Code by SMS

If you're already signed in to Facebook in this browser, the first screen won't ask for your password.

4. I've forgotten my Facebook password

This is the most common snag, and it takes about two minutes to fix. Open Facebook's recovery page, find your account by email or phone, enter the code they send you, and pick a new password. Then come back here and press Connect again.

If you haven't logged in for years, Facebook may ask you to confirm your identity with a photo. That's their process — we can't speed it up, but it usually clears the same day.

6. The window never opens

This is almost always an ad blocker or the browser's tracking protection stopping Facebook's script from loading.

Turn them off for this page and reload. If it still won't open, try a normal (non-private) window, or a different browser.

7. I'm still stuck

Write to us and we'll look at it with you. If Facebook showed you an error, send us a screenshot — it tells us exactly which step broke.
